Long Day from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Did you ever have a day when absolutely nothing goes right? I blame the Christmas season a little bit. Things always get more and more weird as the day approaches. Then it's a week of weirdness between Christmas and New Years. Is it a holiday? Is it a workday? And if it's a workday...why? These are questions I've asked myself in a former life. In retirement, I don't think about holidays any more. There are no holidays from retirement...and no vacations either. This might be a good time to get ...

Checking In from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. Have you been waiting on tenterhooks to see if I took a day off yesterday? Well...yes, and no. As I've mentioned, we're having new carpet installed on the upper floor of our house on January 16th. Said upper floor consists of the stairs leading up and the landing at the top, our master bedroom, and a second bedroom that doubles as my quilting room and office. (No beds have been seen in that room.) So Mike and I have been dreading the purge associated with this carpeting extravaganza. Home Depot is doing the ...

Limpy Lefty from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It was a rather unproductive day here yesterday. Even the kitties were lazy. Mike and I have determined that this kitty paw-over-the-eye position is the way kitties request that you Do Not Disturb.

It took me a long time to get to sleep the night before, and I determined early in the day that I would join her for a nap after lunch. And I did.

Before that, however, we got outside for a bit. I noticed our Japanese maple tree still has a few green leaves clinging to life. This tree is very gratifying in ...

Monticello, Utah from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. And hooray for good internet! We had some time to kill yesterday morning since our drive to Monticello was only about an hour. It gave me some time to spend on my slow-stitching. I finished the head of the cat.

I could have stitched more, but it seemed as good a time as any to move my hoop lower where I could stitch the cat's body.

When I finished with that, it was time to move along. We hitched up and left the park, driving north just a little way. We had lunch at the ...

More Planning from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's a new week. Are you feeling refreshed? We had a quiet but busy week last week. We were both feeling a little rickety last night. Aside from the usual household chores and sewing, I pulled a bucket of weeds. That means lots of sitting down and getting up again, which is at least as tiring as the task itself. Mike kindly installed drip irrigation for the dahlias and the hanging petunia baskets. It occurred to me that someone would need to be around to water the dahlias when we leave on our September trip ...

A Good Day Goes Bad from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. We've managed to get through another week. Just as I wrote that word "week," I remembered something I heard on the radio yesterday as I was driving to the salon for my pedicure. An author was being interviewed, and the two speakers acknowledged that humans have an average life span of just 4,000 weeks. This assumes that a person will live to be 77.9 years of age. Of course, some live longer, and some live less long. Just now I used a pencil and paper to figure which week I'm in right ...

Change of Plans from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends! It's going to be a hot one here today. I'm celebrating by turning on all the burners on the stovetop and doing some canning. Thank goodness for A/C. And while I'm talking about heat...oh my gosh, you people in the south and southwest. I hope y'all are surviving in those sweltering temperatures. Mike and I started our married life with three years in Phoenix while he was going to school, and so I know what that kind of heat feels like. Stay safe, my friends. And thanks to all of ...

Up Past My Bedtime from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. As I mentioned, Mike is at a road rally with Erik and some of his friends. I've had the house to myself this weekend. He'll be home tonight, and so my momentary bohemian lifestyle will come to an end before we chat again. It's fun for a while, but I'm always glad when he comes home from these little outings. Smitty was my companion while I worked on my slow-stitching yesterday.

I expect to finish this today, and so it's even more urgent that I make up the next block for ...

Spring, Sprang, Sprung from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends, and happy Hump Day. It's an unexpectedly pretty day here. The sun is shining, but I expect it will stay cool for much of the day. Mike is heading out this afternoon for an outdoor activity, and I know he'll enjoy a sunny and dry day.

It was kind of a busy day yesterday. I hadn't finished girding up my loins for a trip to the grocery store, but there were too many things we needed. After writing yesterday's post, I went straight to work creating a list, and then we headed ...

Good Day, Sunshine from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It was another sunny day yesterday. We're happy to be getting caught up on the spring things-to-do-in-the-yard. One thing I've discovered is that there is a lot of misplaced equipment involved in this task. Before one can do anything, one must first find the tools one needs. There are many places things end up in the depths of winter, and so finding the tools can take longer than the task itself.

As I mentioned yesterday, we left early for our beloved Egg McMuffins, and then we had some errands to run. One of our ...
